WWE’s Extreme Rules Eye for an Eye match stipulation explained

Rey Mysterio and Seth Rollins’ upcoming fight has a gruesome stipulation.

Seth Rollins has been relentlessly tormenting Rey Mysterio for the last several months. It all began when the Monday Night Messiah severely injured Mysterio by forcing his face onto steel steps and nearly causing the legendary luchador to permanently lose his vision in one of his eyes. Since then things have only escalated.

Rollins has gone as far to make Mysterio’s son Dominic watch his father be assaulted, assaulted Dominic himself, and mocked Mysterio’s proud luchador history. Having failed to sacrifice Mysterio for the greater good, Rollins stepped up his attacks, continuing to push his opponent further and further towards the edge.

Well, it looks like Rey Mysterio has finally hit his breaking point.

After defeating Seth Rollins & Murphy alongside Kevin Owens in a tag team match on Raw last night, Mysterio earned the right to choose the stipulation for his upcoming match against Rollins at The Horror Show at Extreme Rules. Immediately following his victory Mysterio announced that he would face his hated opponent at WWE’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view in an “Eye for an Eye” match — where the only way to win is to remove one of your opponent’s eyes.

I know what you’re thinking, removing someone’s eye in a wrestling match is kind of crazy right? Of course it is. But that hasn’t stopped WWE from leaning into it.

Today the stipulation was confirmed on WWE.com:

The Horror Show at Extreme Rules added a new level of terror as Rey Mysterio and Seth Rollins will meet in an Eye for an Eye Match. Mysterio teamed with Kevin Owens to defeat Rollins & Murphy for the right to choose the gory stipulation where a winner can only determined by extracting the opponent’s eye.

We were already excited for Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt’s Swamp Battle match, but now we get to see one wrestling pull one of his opponent’s eyes out! Wrestling truly rules.

But sure to tune in to our official wrestling podcast, PTW, to hear our predictions for the official card once it has been announced in full.
