Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge toys get retail release

A new 3.75 inch scale Millennium Falcon and other figures will be coming to a Target near you.

Earlier today, StarWars.com announced a retail release for toys based on the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge theme park in Disney World.

If you don’t plan on heading into the coronavirus epicenter of Florida anytime soon, then this might be a good sign that other items exclusive to Galaxy’s Edge shops might be available at mass retail in the future.

For now, though, let’s take a look at what was released/announced. All of the following items are exclusive to Target, which had them all up for preorder this afternoon. Most sold out within minutes. I know I gave Walmart a hard time last week about their exclusive deal to sell Black Series Clone Wars figures, but at least they managed to keep the preorders live for a few hours.

Ugh…get it together, Target.

Anyway, let’s look at the toys, shall we?

Vintage Collection Smuggler’s Run Millennium Falcon

Star Wars Vintage Collection

(StarWars.com)

Priced at a whopping $399.99, this 3.75″ scale Millennium Falcon is based on the ship’s appearance in the Smuggler’s Run attraction at Disney World. All that really means is that the iconic radar dish is replaced by a different one. Fortunately, the toy includes an old school one you can swap in and out.

Just like the Vintage Collection release back in 2012, this one’s highly detailed and loaded with features, including the oft-overlooked escape pod.

It also comes with two super articulated figures: Hondo Ohnaka (the older version) and Chewbacca loaded down with Porgs. If you just want the Hondo figure, though, then be patient. According to Yakface.com, he will be getting a single-carded release in the Vintage Collection very soon.

I’m more than happy with my 2012 Millennium Falcon (which also cost a lot less), but if you have $400 to spare and want to snag this one, it’s scheduled to hit Target store shelves August 30.

There’s also a link for preorder/online purchases in case Target wises up and adds more stock to meet demand.

Black Series Captain Cardinal

(Star Wars/Target)

While many fans felt that Phasma’s potential in the sequel trilogy was wasted, her expanded universe materials are pretty great–especially Delilah Dawson’s novel Phasma. In addition to significantly filling out her backstory, it also introduces Captain Cardinal, who’s one of the best (and most underrated) characters in the new Expanded Universe canon.

Even if you don’t know a thing about him, however, you can’t deny that his design looks all types of cool. For fans of Dawson’s books (like myself) or people who just love a great looking stormtrooper design (also me), this figure is a must buy to add to your 6″ scale Star Wars shelves.

The Black Series Captain Cardinal will retail for $24.99 and is scheduled to hit shelves August 30. If you’d like to see Target’s ‘Out of Stock’ preorder page I’m still checking/cursing at on an hourly basis, click here.

Black Series DJ R-3X

I’ll be honest here and admit that I had no earthly idea who/what this was. Apparently he’s the one spinning tunes at Oga’s Cantina in the Galaxy’s Edge theme park.

I scoffed when StarWars.com described R-3X as a “fan favorite,” but had my cynicism put in check Target’s preorder page for the figure also showed it being sold out. Like the others, it will retail for $24.99 and is scheduled to hit store shelves August 30.
