AEW Rankings: December 2, 2020: Winter is Coming

Winter has arrived!

Tonight AEW’s Winter is Coming event delivers a long awaited AEW World Championship match, a battle royale, and more! Let’s see what this week’s AEW Rankings have to show us as we head into tonight’s event.

While there are no changes week-to-week for the men’s division in the latest rankings, things are still very much in flux. Undoubtedly, a huge change is on the table tonight at AEW’s Winter is Coming event with Jon Moxley facing off against #1 contender Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship. Omega will look to secure his first AEW World Championship and end Moxley’s historic reign as the face of All Elite Wrestling.

Fans will also get to watch the following fifteen wrestlers compete in the second annual AEW Diamond Battle Royale:

MJF
“Hangman” Adam Page
Sammy Guevara
John Silver
Alex Reynolds
Isiah Kassidy
Marq Quen
Matt Hardy
Matt Sydal
Scorpio Sky
Shawn Spears
Orange Cassidy
Kip Sabian
Miro
Wardlow

The winner of the match earns the AEW diamond ring and MJF’s ire (assuming that MJF himself doesn’t win). Whoever walks away from this with the ring on their finger is likely to see a huge boost in the men’s division rankings.

After suffering a scary injury on AEW Dark a few weeks ago, Abadon returned to Dynamite last week and quickly made her presence known by scaring the life out of AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida. For good measure The Living Dead Girl slobbered blood all over the Women’s Championship, just so no one has any confusion about where her intentions lay.

Dark Order’s Anna Jay got bumped off the rankings after her loss to Shida, but has been very vocal about her intentions to get back in the ring with the champion for another shot at the title. Time will tell if her partnership with Tay Conti yields any championship gold.

AEW Rankings Women’s Division

Champion: Hikaru Shida (21-1 singles, 27-7 overall)

1. Big Swole (13-4 singles, 15-9 overall)
2. Nyla Rose (12-3 singles, 19-7 overall)
3. Serena Deeb (4-2) singles, 4-2 overall)
4. Penelope Ford (11-5 singles, 13-8 overall)
5. Abadon (5-1 singles, 5-1 overall)

Last week Angelico and Jack Evans defeated the newly signed tag team Top Flight, after The Hybrid2 randomly attacked the newcomers during their match with the Young Bucks the week prior. Meanwhile, Inner Circle members Chris Jericho and Jake Hager had a great match against Frankie Kazarian and Christopher Daniels of SCU, defeating the SoCal pair with the help of the nefarious MJF.

Rounding out the tag team action was an excellent match between The Butcher & The Blade and Pac and Rey Fenix. The animosity between these two teams is high after a falling out between Eddie Kingston and Pentagon Jr., the heads of the respective factions.

So while we saw a lot of tag action last week, none of it impacted the rankings as none of the teams in the rankings actually wrestled on Dynamite. That’s okay though, still great storytelling across the board.

AEW Rankings Tag Team Division

Champions: The Young Bucks (11-3)

1. FTR (12-1)
2. Best Friends (19-7)
3. Jurassic Express (14-5)
4. Natural Nightmares (9-2)
5. Dark Order (14-2)
