The Book of Boba Fett announced as new series on Disney+

The Mandalorian spinoff will arrive at the end of 2021.

Disney has officially announced that The Book of Boba Fett will be a new live-action Star Wars TV series arriving on Disney+ in December 2021. The Boba Fett spinoff was teased in an after credits scene during the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, and it immediately sent fans into a frenzy of speculation due to the unclear nature of what exactly The Book of Boba Fett would be. Up until today’s announcement there was no clear indication of whether or not the legendary bounty hunter was receiving a series of his own, an anthology, a film, or something else entirely.

This morning on Good Morning America, Jon Favreau, executive producer of The Mandalorian, confirmed that the new series is currently in production and will arrive December 2021 on Disney+. Dave Filoni will once again team with Favreau, this time in the role of executive producer. Filoni held the role of executive producer on The Mandalorian, as well as director of episodes 1 and 5 of Season 1, and episode 5 of season 2, where he made his live action debut. Robert Rodriguez — who directed Chapter 14 of The Mandalorian, the episode that reintroduced Boba Fett to the Star Wars galaxy, and the character’s first live-action role since Star Wars Episode II — joins Favreau and Dave Filoni as executive producer.

The Book of Boba Fett will be set within the timeline of The Mandalorian and star Temuera Morrison as the titular bounty hunter, along with Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand. Both of the deadly bounty hunters were most recently seen in the finale for The Mandalorian Season 2, and were the last two characters seen on screen as they took over the former palace of Jabba the Hutt on the planet Tatooine.
