Avar Kriss was a human female Jedi Master during the time of the High Republic. Kriss styled her blonde hair shoulder length and wore a golden circlet on her forehead. She wore traditional Jedi robes over a white tunic and pants, with brown boots, and secured the ensemble with a golden belt buckle featuring the symbol of the Jedi Order. The powerful Jedi Master wielded a green-bladed lightsaber with a hilt composed of silver-white electrum that featured a crossguard and a spiraling line of seastone along its length that served as both a grip and a pleasing aesthetic.

During the Great Disaster, a catastrophic hyperspace event that killed millions of beings across the outer rim territories, Kriss earned great distinction from her efforts in leading and coordinating the combined Jedi and Republic rescue efforts in the Hetzal system. Without the quick thinking and inspiring leadership of Kriss, the entire system would have been destroyed. Thanks to her herculean efforts and unique Force powers, the powerful Jedi Master was able to avert disaster and save billions of lives by coordinating a joint use of the Force that included hundreds of Jedi across the galaxy.

In recognition of Master Kriss’s incredible and inspiring actions in the Hetzal system, Grand Masters Yoda and Veter offered Kriss the position of marshal of the Starlight Beacon, a space station that was the spearhead of the Jedi and Republic’s efforts to bring the remote systems of the outer rim into the fold of the Republic. Starlight Beacon housed a full fledged Jedi temple, the largest in the Order next to the temple of Coruscant.

As a wielder of the Force and a Jedi Master, Avar Kriss was proficient in using many of the common and well known Jedi abilities. When attuning herself to the energy of the Force, Kriss viewed it as music and she was able to listen to the song of life, death, and the endless cycle of the Force from across the galaxy. The marshal of Starlight Beacon also possessed an extremely rare skill seen in very few Jedi: the ability to transmit images, locations, sensations and desire through the Force. This is the ability she used in coordinating the efforts of Jedi from across the galaxy to save the Hetzal system, and while doing so the Jedi Master also levitates. Telekinesis is a common, but difficult to master technique among the Jedi that requires a great concentration and effort. To see Master Kriss using it in tandem with another extremely strenuous use of the Force is simply incredible, and surely an indicator that she is without a doubt one of the strongest Force users in the entire Jedi Order.

Kriss first appeared in the Star Wars universe as a nameless figure projected from within a Jedi holocron in The Rise of Kylo Ren #3 during a flashback scene at Luke Skywalker’s new Jedi academy.
