Jocasta Nu was a Force-sensitive human female Jedi Master during the waning years of the Republic who served as Chief Librarian of the Jedi Archives during the Clone Wars. The Chief Librarian had light skin, blue eyes, white hair that she wore tied up with long hair pins, and wore traditional Jedi robes with an array of unknown symbols decorating the front.

Born on Coruscant, Nu was identified as Force-sensitive at a young age and brought to the Jedi Temple for training. During her time with the Jedi Order, she studied to become a Jedi Consular — a member of the Order who devotes themselves to the study of diplomacy or science — and succeeded in attaining the role, focusing herself on maintaining and updating the Jedi Archives. Nu’s devotion to the Archives eventually led to her appointment as Chief Librarian, a role that made her the chief steward for all the knowledge the Jedi Order had collected over the millennia. In addition to serving as the head of the Archives, the Jedi Master was also a member of the Jedi Council for a time prior to the Clone Wars, and trained several Padawans.

As Chief Librarian, Nu was the guardian of the Jedi Holocron Vault, a secure location deep within the Jedi Temple that housed some of the Order’s most sensitive information, to which only members of the Jedi Council were allowed to enter. During the Clone Wars, the shapeshifting Clawdite bounty hunter Cato Parasitti snuck into the Archives, knocked out Nu, and stole a holocron. Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan at the time, assisted the Chief Librarian with hunting down and capturing Parasitti.

Master Nu was close friends with Jedi Master Eno Cordova, and during the Clone Wars when Cordova experienced a vision of the fall of the Jedi Order, the Jedi Council dismissed his warnings about the Order’s impending fall. Cordova turned to Nu for help, as she was the only member of the Order who believed him. Together they entered the archives and created a copy of a holocron that contained a list of all potentially Force-sensitive children across the galaxy. Nu entrusted the holocron to Cordova, who in turn hid it in a Zeffo Vault on the planet Bogano, where it remained until the vault was discovered and opened by Padawan Cal Kestis.

As Master Cordova foresaw, the Jedi Order fell at the end of the Clone Wars at the hands of Darth Sidious and Order 66. Nu was one of the few Jedi to survive the early stages of the Jedi Purge and took it upon herself to preserve the knowledge of the Order and attempt to start a new hidden school in which to train a new generation of Jedi. On a hidden world far away from the prying eyes of the Empire and its Inquisitors, Nu had created a secret vault filled with Jedi artifacts, knowledge, and holocrons.

The former Librarian left the safety of her refuge when she realized that there was a list of Force-sensitive children hidden in a holocron in the Jedi Temple. She needed the list to start a new Jedi school, and wanted to avoid having it fall into the hands of the Empire. When Nu returned to the fallen Jedi Temple to retrieve the holocron, she was confronted by the Grand Inquisitor, who dueled and defeated her. As the killing blow was about to fall Darth Vader stopped the Grand Inquisitor, as he wanted Nu alive to use her to obtain information he desperately needed. Ultimately, Vader decided to kill Nu when she revealed that she knew his true identity, Anakin Skywalker.

You can follow Jocasta Nu on her adventures in the Clone Wars animated TV series and the prequel films on Disney+, or in the Darth Vader comic books.
