Percolate Galactic brings its premiere of action comedy Rendang of Death to South By Southwest. Ryan Jackson’s story is brought to life in frames that are almost completely hand drawn and captures the high flying violence caused by the popularly demanded Rendang. What happens to patrons in a diner when there is only one piece of Rendang left? It becomes a fight to the finish.
Directed by Muhammad Andri Abdi and written by Jackson, Indraswari Pangestu, and Skolastika and Lupitawina, a fantastical tale of community and violence unfolds in a small diner. What begins with two brothers squabbling over the last piece of rendang turns into a brawl with nunchucks, swords, and magic portals.
The artwork is vibrant and adds a nice retro edge to the imaginative story. Mixing fantasy and food, Rendang of Death is a fast paced short that tells a simple yet completely insane story about a dining experience. Rendang of Death brings its deadly premiere to this year’s South By Southwest Festival.
SXSW is March 16 – March 20. Tickets and a full lineup can be found here.
