WWE releases Braun Strowman, Aleister Black and more Superstars

Some big-name WWE Superstars have been let go by the company.

WWE has announced today that they have released six Superstars:

  • Braun Strowman
  • Aleister Black
  • Lana
  • Murphy
  • Ruby Riott
  • Santana Garrett

The release of Braun Strowman and Aleister Black are particularly puzzling — Strowman has been a WWE mainstay for years, wrestled Shane McMahon in a marquee match at WrestleMania 37 and competed for the WWE Championship just last month at WrestleMania Backlash. Meanwhile, Aleister Black had been cultivating a new “Dark Father” gimmick through weeks of vignettes, and appeared to kick off a new feud with Big E on SmackDown a couple of weeks ago.

Black himself seemed surprised by the news, saying on Twitter that the news “was a complete left field”.

Lana had been in a tag team with Naomi in recent months, but is most well known as the manager for her real-life husband Rusev, now known as Miro in AEW. With Miro beginning to take off in All Elite Wrestling, the former Ravishing Russian might be a perfect fit.

We wish everyone released today the best of luck in their future endeavors. We will update this story as more information becomes available.
