Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 06/07/2021

Our Channel Surfing TV picks for this week include a comic show, an adult animation, and one that’s both.

If you enjoy comics, adult animation, or both, you might be interested in our Channel Surfing TV picks this week. The next installment of the MCU begins with Loki. After a two-year hiatus, Tuca & Bertie returns for an all-new season. Then, in between both shows’ airings is the premiere of the horror crime anime, Trese.

Loki’s Excellent Adventure

Disney+ is on a tear with their Marvel TV shows. First, we explored the picturesque suburban family life with Wanda and Vision, then journeyed the globe on an international buddy adventure with Sam and Bucky. Now it’s time to go time traveling with Loki.

The series is a crime-thriller meets epic-adventure with the God of Mischief crossing paths with the Time Variance Authority (TVA), who are in charge of maintaining the timeline. Loki partners with a TVA agent to solve crimes while he manages the strict, by the number bureaucracy of the organization.

Loki premiers this Wednesday, June 9, on Disney+

Filipino Things That Go Bump in the Night

Loki isn’t the only comic related program to air this week. Trese, based off of the work from writer, Budjette Tan, and artist, Kajo Baldisimo, carefully blends the supernatural with crime noir in an animated series.

Alexandra Trese is a different kind of detective who investigates crimes committed by the dark supernatural forces in Metro Manila. She, along with her muscle the mysterious Kambal, are tasked with keeping the streets safe from threats the ordinary police can’t handle. Prepare to discover the seedy underbelly of the city and be introduced to creatures drawn directly from Filipino lore and mythology.

Stream Trese starting this Friday, June 11, on Netflix.

The Girls are Back

There have been a number of mismatched odd couple types to appear on television throughout the years but how many of them are bird-women? The only ones that come to mind are Tuca and Bertie. The pair are back from the dead of cancellation with an all new season on an all new home.

Get ready for more surreal humor, colorfully vibrant animation, and young adult anxiety tales. In season two, Bertie looks to excise her inner ghouls through therapy while Tuca wants to start dating again. Though he’s not in the show’s title, we can’t forget our main man, Speckle, who begins building a new house but is soon driven to the brink of insanity.

Tuca & Bertie season two begins this Sunday, June 13, on Adult Swim.
