[CFF ’21] ‘The Three Men You Meet at Night’ review: Different kind of coming of age tale

Girl, you’ll be a woman soon.

The Three Men You Meet at Night is a short film screening at the Chattanooga Film Fest. It is a too real horror movie about a teenaged girl walking home alone after a party. Along the way, she encounters three very different men. The film deals with what it is like to be a woman. The short resides in a hellish landscape where no man is to be trusted. The Three Men You Meet at Night sounds like it will be over the top. Instead, it is the subtleties that make it work so well.

This is not a feel good coming of age story.

There are straightforward scary moments, but it is the simple interactions that make it so terrifying. The plot tells a simple but effective story. The focus is putting the audience in a particular mindset. The Three Men You Meet at Night is a poignant tale about a girl becoming a woman. This is far from a feel good coming of age story, however. It is one that is baked in fear and reality.
