Disney has revealed today their latest summer film Jungle Cruise came home with an estimated $90 million globally. That number includes $34 million domestic, $27.6 million from the international box office, and $30 million via Disney+ Premier Access. All told that’s a decent box office during the pandemic although a movie such as this would usually command $90 million domestically alone.
Considering it’s only half what Black Widow brought in via the Disney+ Premier Access that’s rather paltry. Truly, the pandemic is still hurting major motion pictures. Considering Jungle Cruise has a reported $200 million budget it has a long way to go to recoup its cost.
This news may also make some wonder if Scarlett Johansson’s lawsuit against Disney may spur on the Jungle Cruise stars to file lawsuits themselves. Depending on their contracts, the $30 million Jungle Cruise made from the Disney+ app could be lost revenue.
Wait, what’s Jungle Cruise about?
Jungle Cruise is a summer adventure film based on one of Disney’s original theme park rides. It features Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt on an adventure that takes her character Dr. Lily Houghton from London, England to the Amazon jungle. Johnson plays Frank who is her guide. That sums up the ride more or less, but the film follows Lily’s attempt to uncover an ancient tree with healing abilities
