Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 08/16/2021

A Channel Surfing TV pick that’s sweet and two not so much.

We try to balance something sweet with a couple darker series for our Channel Surfing TV picks this week. Competitors show off their ice cream making skills in Ben and Jerry’s: Clash of the Cones. On the other end of the spectrum is the season 11 premiere of The Walking Dead. Then visit a creepy nineteenth century ancestral home in Chapelwaite.

The Next Cherry Garcia

Summer might be ending and the kids are going back to school but that doesn’t mean the hot weather is letting up. One way to stay cool is with some ice cream. Grab a carton of Ben and Jerry’s and catch their new reality food competition, Ben and Jerry’s: Clash of the Cones.

The show pits six of the country’s best ice cream masters against each other for the honor of creating an original flavor for the company. Each episode, contestants use the specially constructed lab at the Ben and Jerry’s Waterbury, Vermont factory to develop a flavor that represents the essence of a celebrity or pop culture icon. Throughout the season, some of the invited guests and inspirations include rapper, Ludacris, actor, Kevin Bacon, and Food Network personalities, Duff Goldman and Buddy Valastro.

The special 90-minute season premiere of Ben and Jerry’s: Clash of the Cones will air today, August 16, on the Food Network.

The Beginning of the End

The eleventh season of The Walking Dead will be the last of the post-apocalyptic zombie series. To tell the final chapter, it will have 24 episodes split into three parts. The first part will make its linear debut this week (AMC+ subscribers gained access to the season 11 premiere early).

We’ll dive deeper into the Commonwealth, a large network of communities that have been able to retain some function of a regular society much better than other places we’ve visited so far. They boast a large number of inhabitants and have access to advanced equipment. We’ll also learn more about this season’s antagonist, the Reapers, who are merely another group of sadistic killers that wear masks.

Catch the season 11 premiere of The Walking Dead this Sunday, August 22, on AMC.

Back to Your Roots

Stephen King has had several of his works adapted into television shows. Most recently, his novels The Outsider, The Stand, and Lisey’s Story found themselves on the small screen on HBO, CBS All Access, and Apple TV+ respectively. Now, the short story, “Jerusalem’s Lot” is the next of his projects to be turned into a series.

Chapelwaite follows a young sea captain who returns to his ancestral home in the small town of Preacher’s Corner, Maine. There, he plans to raise his three children after the death of his beloved wife in a mansion he inherited from an estranged cousin. During the course of their stay, the captain discovers his family’s haunting and dark history.

The series premiere of Chapelwaite will air Sunday, August 22, on Epix.
