The worst-kept secret in wrestling finally unfolded last week: after 2,766 days, CM Punk returned to professional wrestling on AEW Rampage. It’s a moment that will go down in history as one of the most important in wrestling history, and despite our concerns last week that nothing could possibly live up to the hype that AEW had built around it, it was everything pro wrestling should be: simple, direct, emotional, and impactful.

Which turns the conversation to SummerSlam, which saw WWE somehow bungle the less-but-still-very-anticipated return of Becky Lynch to the ring in a confusing, overbooked, overcomplicated moment that actively harmed three Superstars in the process.
