‘X Lives of Wolverine’ and ‘X Deaths of Wolverine’ are weekly series in 2022 by Ben Percy

New details on ‘X Lives of Wolverine’ and ‘X Deaths of Wolverine’ were revealed on the AIPT Comics podcast.

X-Force and Wolverine writer Benjamin Percy joined the AIPT Comics podcast this week to discuss Wereworld, and near the end of the interview–listen to it in full here–he briefly talked about the upcoming X Lives of Wolverine and X Deaths of Wolverine. When asked if X stands for the letter X or ten, Percy confirmed it’s actually the number ten as in, 10 Lives of Wolverine, but in the case of the second title, it’s X Deaths of Wolverine.

Percy also revealed these Wolverine series will be the weekly books Jonathan Hickman teased when he spoke to Entertainment Weekly. “I gather everything from Inferno, and sets up the next era. So that’s me,” Percy said on the AIPT Comics podcast. When asked if the weekly series is written exclusively by him Percy said, “Yeah X Lives is all me with all my artist collaborators.”

When talking to EW, Hickman said, “So after Inferno, I’ll be leaving to go work on my “Next Big Marvel Thing™” and starting in January the X-Line will rocket forward starting with a weekly series that leads into the very cool, refocused, line of books. Yes, it’s taken us a little while to get everything assembled correctly, but the end result — everything that’s coming after Inferno — is going to be pretty great.”

X Lives of Wolverine and X Deaths of Wolverine are two of eight new titles Marvel announced back on August 31st. At the time, Marvel revealed those two titles would usher in the Second Krakoan Age.

The full teaser for X Lives of Wolverine and X Deaths of Wolverine reads:

Now, Marvel Comics’ X Lives of Wolverine and X Deaths of Wolverine will test ‘the best there is at what he does’ before any mutant can survive to The Second Krakoan Age. Benjamin Percy, Joshua Cassara and Federico Vicentini tell two interlocked tales about what happens to Wolverine when…His Pasts Meet His Future.

I highly recommend listening to the entire podcast, not only to get your fix of weekly news and reviews but also to hear Percy talk about his novella Wereworld with Francesco Francavilla out on September 14th. It’s very good.
