‘Handle with Care: The Legend of The Notic Streetball Crew’ review

Inspiration on the court.

Handle with Care: The Legend of The Notic Streetball Crew follows a group of friends in Vancouver. The crew faced discrimination and were able to find each other to become a worldwide phenomenon. The documentary charts the meteoric rise, the sudden fall, and their attempts to finish what they started.

The film begins by introducing the members of the team. This gives background into the characters which is important when Handle With Care gets into more serious issues later on. It gives audiences a chance to get invested in the Notic team as more than basketball players.

Interviews and archival footage are shown over the course of the near hour and a half. This shows the difference between the carefree attitude of youth and the more serious issues that come with adulthood. Still, it takes a while for Handle With Care to bring the two together. It has a tendency to mention important issues then drop them for an extended period of time.

'Handle with Care: The Legend of The Notic Streetball Crew' review

Handle With Care is a film about overcoming life’s hardships. There are a lot of powerful stories in the documentary, but the emotional impact is sometimes lacking. For example, the doc does not seamlessly flow and just casually mentions how things fell apart. Just as quickly, the group are back together again for the first time since they were teenagers

As disjointed as things can be, Handle with Care: The Legend of The Notic Streetball Crew is still an entertaining watch. The streetball segments are exciting and will remind audiences of a simpler time. The stories of the Notic crew are lessons in determination.
