Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 12/27/2021

Close out 2021 with our Channel Surfing TV picks this week.

Close out 2021 with our Channel Surfing TV picks. Looks can be deceiving in the newest culinary competition, Raid the Fridge. One of the galaxy’s most dangerous bounty hunters looks to rule the underworld in The Book of Boba Fett. Then, return to the Valley for more karate and teen drama in the new season of Cobra Kai.

Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover

Food Network has televised many cooking competitions from one of the OGs, Iron Chef, to more recent favorites such as Chopped. The latest addition to their lineup involves making a tasty and complex meal but with a catch: contestants must select a refrigerator based on its outward appearance and use whatever ingredients they find inside.

Raid the Fridge pits four talented chefs against each other while making some culinary magic. They must take a chance on choosing between refrigerators that can look like they are owned by a family of four or one used by a young eligible bachelor. The show is hosted by food podcaster, Dan Ahdoot, and has celebrity chefs, Jamika Pessoa and Jordan Andino, as judges.

Raid the Fridge will premiere Tuesday, December 28, on Food Network.

A Different Way to Rule

Though Boba Fett came back in the comics after falling into the Great Pit of Carkoon, those stories were later rebranded as Star Wars Legends and took place outside the continuity of the official Star Wars Universe. But you can’t keep a good bounty hunter down and during the second season of The Mandalorian, the character made a significant appearance thus making his survival post Return of the Jedi canon.

When we last saw Fett, he returned to Tatooine accompanied by Fennec Shand and killed Bib Fortuna. Afterwards, he takes the throne that once was used by notorious gangster, Jabba the Hutt. In The Book of Boba Fett, we follow the pair as they try to make their own mark in the underworld. They have their own ideas on how to run things and the disruption in the status quo is sure to ruffle some feathers.

Stream the first episode of The Book of Boba Fett beginning Wednesday, December 29, on Disney+.

An Old Nemesis

Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso have had a complicated relationship. They were rivals in high school and a karate competition seemed to be the turning point in both their lives. Thirty years later they find themselves again on opposite sides as they run their own dojos. However, circumstances can change and the pair are working together to battle a greater evil.

In the upcoming season of Cobra Kai, Johnny and Daniel combine forces to take down the titular dojo, run once again by John Kreese. It’s all going down at the 51st annual All-Valley Under-18 Karate Championship but there’s still a long way and plenty of preparation to get there. The title isn’t the only thing at stake as Lawrence risks losing his son forever to his old mentor. So much drama and that doesn’t even include the return of The Karate Kid Part III villain, Terry Silver.

Binge the entire fourth season of Cobra Kai starting Friday, December 31, on Netflix.
