Punisher and his new logo make unexpected appearance in Marvel series

Fans anticipating ‘The Punisher’ #1 next week might want to check out this lead-in comic.

Spoilers ahead. You’ve been warned.

If you’ve been enjoying Marvel’s Devil’s Reign event and you love Punisher you might want to draw your focus to a new series that ties into the event. But first, what’s going on with Punisher for those who haven’t been keeping up?

Listen to the latest episode of our weekly comics podcast!

Punisher has been pretty much missing from Marvel Comics over the last year, but back on December 20th, Marvel revealed Jason Aaron was taking on a new prestige format series with artists Jesús Saiz and Paul Azaceta that promised to evolve the character. Very little is known about this new development for Punisher, but with the series starting next week on March 9th we’re about to find out.

One big takeaway from the teaser materials was that Punisher’s logo was changing. The preview materials showed the traditional skull was now a horned skull. We also learned he was somehow involved with the Hand. With a ton of anticipation for Punisher #1 out next week, none of us expected he’d pop up a week early. The old logo change has been embroiled in debate and controversy over the last two years, especially since unlicensed use of the logo has popped up on various sites and is used by police, military, and even blended with patriotic symbols.

He shows up, in a rather dramatic fashion, at the end of Daredevil: Woman Without Fear #3. It’s an apt reveal considering Elektra’s the main character of the book and has ties to the Hand.

Check out the reveal below with art by Rafael de Latorre.

Punisher The Hand 2022

It’s a quick scene, but it confirms Punisher’s new status quo in the Marvel universe is as the Hand’s leader.

Much of Daredevil: Woman Without Fear #3 is focused on Elektra’s new Daredevil persona fighting Kraven, who was sent by Kingpin along with the Hand as well. What’s obvious though is this issue leads directly into Punisher #1, so if you’re interested in that series it might be worth picking this issue up.

What do you think of the Punisher’s new costume and what’s his new direction now that he’s the head of a clan of killer ninjas? Let us know in the comments.
