AEW now owns Ring of Honor. AEW President Tony Khan made the major announcement at the beginning of tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite in a rare televised appearance. Following the announcement, Khan introduced Dynamite‘s opening contest between two wrestlers who main evented Ring of Honor’s first show all the way back in 2002, 20 years ago this month: Christopher Daniels and Bryan Danielson. The match, officiated by former ROH referee Paul Turner, kicked off with both men shaking hands in observance of the Code of Honor.
Khan posted a full press release on his Twitter account, which you can read below:

Ring of Honor started in 2002 and quickly garnered a reputation for housing some of the most innovative and exciting pro wrestling on the planet. In the 20 years that have followed, some of the biggest names in wrestling have honed their craft in ROH, from current AEW stars CM Punk and Bryan Danielson to WWE Superstars Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.
ROH, owned by Sinclair Broadcasting since 2011, has experienced some hard times in recent years, including going on a hiatus late last year to “reconceptualize” the company.
It’s unknown at this time what Tony Khan’s plans are for the promotion, but judging by his promo, it doesn’t sound like it will be shut down or absorbed into AEW.
During his announcement, Tony Khan joked, “there’s no Shane,” in reference to the largest acquisition in wrestling history when the then-World Wrestling Federation purchased the assets of WCW 21 years ago this month.
