Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 03/14/2022

Find out what to watch this week with our Channel Surfing TV picks.

Our Channel Surfing TV picks this week include two comedies along with a comic inspired drama. Watch how the eccentric personalities of small town America live in Welcome to Flatch. The Big Mouth universe expands into the Monster World in Human Resources. Then catch backup with Archie and the gang with the return of Riverdale.

Midwestern Mockumentary

There’s a long legacy of mockumentaries on television from the fan favorite, The Office, to critical darlings such as Modern Family and the current Abbott Elementary. Fox’s newest sitcom, Welcome to Flatch, is the latest in the genre.

The story follows a documentary crew who want to capture the lives of people in a small American town. During their search for the ideal location, they happen upon Flatch which has a lot of character and characters. It is an American version of the British sitcom, This Country, and is created and executive produced by Jenny Bicks. Paul Feig directs the pilot.

Welcome to Flatch premieres Thursday, March 17, on Fox but the first seven episodes will drop on Hulu to binge.

Help Managing Your Feelings

We’ve seen how the different creatures on Big Mouth influence the actions and decisions of the young protagonists and have even briefly visited their world. Now, get ready to fully explore where Hormone Monsters, Depression Kitties, and more reside.

Human Resources is a workplace comedy featuring how these various beings work in tandem, and sometimes against each other, to manipulate people’s feelings. And unlike Big Mouth, it has a more mature spin to it covering situations throughout the entirety of life from birth to death as explained in our interview with the show’s co-creators Andrew Goldberg and Kelly Galuska.

Catch the entire first season of Human Resources beginning Friday, March 18, on Netflix.

Picking Up the Pieces

Much like The Flash, Riverdale began its season with a special five-episode event entitled Rivervale. It occurred in a parallel universe where the supernatural existed and saw a crossover with Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

However, when the series comes back this week, it will pick up right after the explosive events at the end of season five. Archie, Betty, and Jughead experience mysterious side effects afterwards while Veronica wrestles with her feelings when learning that Hiram may have been involved.

Riverdale resumes its sixth season this Sunday, March 20, on The CW.
