We’ve got scares, prehistoric action, and parenting comedy with our Channel Surfing TV picks this week. The anthology series American Horror Stories returns for an all-new season. A neanderthal and Tyrannosaurus only have each other to survive in the second season of Primal. Then, Nikki and Jason finally have their chance to start a family of their own in the third season of Trying.
Feed Your Fears
Long running FX show, American Horror Story (AHS), received a spinoff last year. American Horror Stories would air different self-contained stories each episode rather than maintain a season long overarching narrative. It allowed viewers to explore other corners of this universe with both familiar and new characters.
The show is coming back guaranteeing a new nightmare every week. Just from the trailer we can expect freaky dolls, serial killers, and more. Expect to see AHS regulars such as Denis O’Hare and Gabourey Sidibe while some of the more interesting new cast members include Judith Light and Alicia Silverstone. Prepare for a season of perverse tales.
The second season of American Horror Stories begins Thursday, July 21, on FX on Hulu.
Exploring New Lands
Primal follows the unlikely friendship between a Neanderthal named Spear and a Tyrannosaurus named Fang who are brought together through tragedy. Though they don’t always see eye to eye, they forge a strong bond as they go on adventures and try to endure in a dangerous prehistoric fantasy world.
When we last left the pair, they meet up with a third companion; a woman named Mira. Though they enjoy each other’s company, Mira is kidnapped and taken away from our protagonists. Will they try to track down their friend’s kidnappers in order to mount a daring rescue? What other perils will cross their path?
Find out in the new season of Primal, which begins Thursday, July 21, on Adult Swim.
Having a Good Love
Nikki and Jason of Trying, are a couple who just want to start a family of their own. They face obstacles along the way and determine that adoption is the best route for them. Their wish finally comes true when they become the parents of two children.
That is only the beginning of a new status quo in this heartwarming comedy. They may have the enthusiasm and good intentions of being good parents, but there is a lot more to be done. There are some growing pains in the parent/child relationship particularly for Nikki. However, when things start to improve, other aspects of their life change jeopardizing the family.
The first two episodes of the third season of Trying drop Friday, July 22, on Apple TV+.
