Legendary comic book writer Alan Grant has passed away at the age of 73. His wife Sue Grant confirmed via Facebook this morning.
Grant created foundational stories for Judge Dredd in 2000 AD, Batman, and Lobo. Grant worked on Batman titles from the late 1980s to the early 2000s.
Judge Dredd was Grant’s main focus for much of the 1980s. Grant worked with John Wagner to develop the Judge Dredd strip in 2000 AD and create lengthy epic storylines such as “The Apocalypse War.”
Alan Grant received an Inkpot Award in 1992. Grant and his fellow Brits Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Garth Ennis, Dave Gibbons, and Grant Morrison made waves in the 1980s. His first DC Comics work was Outcasts in 1987, which was followed up by his Detective Comics run the following year. Grant went on to create Batman villains Anarky, Ventriloquist, and Victor Zsasz. Grant also supplied a story in 2019’s Detective Comics #1000.
