Our Channel Surfing TV picks for the week include video games, superheroes, and fantasy. Enter the violent King of the Deadly Fist tournament in Tekken: Bloodline. Even the superpowered need representation in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Then, see the rise of the Targaryens in House of Dragons.

For Revenge

Tekken is a popular fighting video game series from Namco that has spanned over 25 years. In that time, it has also been found in different mediums including comics and both live action and animated films. The upcoming anime series Tekken: Bloodline is the latest adaptation from the franchise.

The story is loosely based off of Tekken 3 and revolves around Jin Kazama’s pursuit to avenge his mother’s death. He enters the infamous King of the Deadly Fist tournament in order to confront the dangerous Ogre. Expect to see many familiar faces from the game such as Jin’s grandfather, Heihachi Mishima, who trains his grandson to develop that killer instinct.

Binge the entire first season of Tekken: Bloodline beginning Thursday, August 18, on Netflix.

Super-powered Ally McBeal

Marvel Studios has consistently been releasing television content since January of 2021 when WandaVision premiered. These shows further explored characters that appeared in the films and also introduced new heroes into the MCU. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law will be the eighth series to be released.

The titular character is an attorney who specializes in superhuman related legal cases. Of course, who better to represent these clients than someone who has powers of her own. Jennifer Walters is the cousin of Bruce Banner and has gained some of his abilities. This makes things complicated in her personal life as a single 30-something with a hulking presence and who happens to be green.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law will premiere Thursday, August 18, on Disney+.

Going Back to Westeros

Before Daenerys Targaryen was exiled from Westeros and plotted to retake the Iron Throne, her family ruled the kingdom. House of Dragon, a prequel to Game of Thrones (GOT), goes back two centuries to explore the history of House Targaryen.

For those who soured on the franchise following the GOT final season, at least the new show has a new creative team consisting of Martin and Ryan Condal. Portions of the story is based off of George R. R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood. It follows what happened prior to and during the internal Targaryen power struggle known as the “Dance of the Dragons.”

The series premiere of House of Dragon is Sunday, August 21, on HBO.
