Chris and Chandler leap ahead to the year 2099! Back in 1993, there was a huge push by Marvel to show what the bleak future holds with titles on X-Men, Punisher, Spider-Man, Hulk, Doom and more – all in the 2099 universe. Current day comics are now pulling from the 2099 Universe with Steve Orlando writing in Brimstone Love and Cerebra into the Krakoan-era. Now is the perfect time to look back at X-Men 2099 and see what we may have overlooked back in 1993.
X-Men 2099 #1 was published in October 1993. In that same month:
- The top film at the time: Demolition Man
- The top song at the time: “Dreamlover” by Mariah Carey
- The Nightmare Before Christmas released October 31st, 1993
- Michael Jordan retired for the first time
- Ace of Base’s earworm song “The Sign” was released
