‘Amazing Spider-Man’ #10 gets surprisingly romantic

‘Amazing Spider-Man’ #10 ties into ‘A.X.E.: Judgment Day’ and lets Peter connect with Gwen Stacy in a real way.

Spoilers ahead for Amazing Spider-Man #10. You’ve been warned. For more on Amazing Spider-Man #10, read our review.

Amazing Spider-Man #10 this week ties into A.X.E.: Judgment Day, and given the central conceit of the event, everyone on Earth is being judged. If they get judged poorly, everyone dies, presumably, which isn’t romantic, but things do go that way in this issue. Spider-Man is judged for 24 hours by a Celestial hanging over his shoulder in this week’s issue. Much of the issue allows fans to see Peter connect with the most important people in his life, including Aunt May and J.J. Jameson.

Oh, and the Celestial takes the form of Gwen Stacy. See, romance! Well sort of, as I’ll explain.

After a long day connecting with friends and family, the Celestial continues to linger around Peter, who ends up opening up to the Celestial. At that moment, he reveals something quite personal and maybe even romantic.

That’s right, Peter confirms he still loves Gwen Stacy. It’s a genuine moment, but things get more interesting from there. He knows who he’s speaking to is the Celestial, not really Gwen, which prompts a response.

In a surprise twist, the Celestial gives Spider-Man a small gift: A chance to speak to Gwen Stacy for real. That’s right, she is given life briefly, and in the final moments, she shares an intimate moment with Peter Parker.

The moment is brief, and while they don’t share a kiss or profess their love for each other in this real moment, it’s still meaningful. Things get a lot more interesting from there involving Norman Osborn, but there’s no love in that!

I highly recommend reading the entire issue to get the whole picture. Amazing Spider-Man #10 is available in bookstores and comic shops today.
