Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 10/10/2022

A new week brings another installment of our Channel Surfing TV picks.

A new week brings another installment of our Channel Surfing TV picks. Passengers and crew of the Avenue 5 are still trying to find their way back home to Earth. One of the most popular manga, Chainsaw Man, is finally receiving an anime adaptation. Then, Step Up finds a new home just in time for its third season.

The Lengthy Space Trip from Hell

On Avenue 5, the titular luxury passenger spaceship sets out for a routine trip through the solar system, but a freak accident knocks the vessel off course and the voyage home will take three years instead of the planned eight weeks.

When we last left the series, a plan was in place to reduce the travel to six months. However, through a misunderstanding, items were jettisoned from the incorrect side thus moving the ship further from its preferred trajectory and increasing the time to eight years. In the new season, Captain Ryan Clark shares the truth with the passengers including the lack of provisions. All hell breaks loose and it’s difficult to maintain order. The only bright side is that the trip might be cut short. That’s because they are on a course straight into the sun.

The season two premiere of Avenue 5 airs tonight, October 10, on HBO.

Hunting the Devils

Chainsaw man, written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto, is one of the most popular manga series out today. That is a big reason why so many fans are eagerly awaiting the release of the anime adaptation this week.

The story follows a teenage boy named Denji, who is working off his father’s debt. He harvests devil corpses with his live-in Chainsaw Devil, Pochita. One day, he is double crossed by his employer and left for dead. Before he can leave this world, he forms a pact with Pochita and becomes an entity that is a man with a devil’s heart.

Catch the series premiere of Chainsaw Man on Tuesday, October 11, on Crunchyroll.

Keeping the Empire Afloat

Cobra Kai is probably the most well-known YouTube Original to continue on at a different outlet, but it’s not the only one. Step Up also received its start on the subscription service but has found a new home over at Starz.

The show is based on the film series of the same name and is centered on the students and faculty at High Water, one of Atlanta’s most competitive performing arts schools. This season, Sage Odom, the school’s founder, is under arrest for murder. Odom’s partner, Colette Jones, is tasked with running things including a tour featuring the talented young artists from High Water.

The new season of Step Up begins Sunday, October 16, on Starz.
