Karma has arrived at the green lagoon to drown her sorrows after being dumped by her girlfriend at the conclusion of the prior issue. She doesn’t have long to pout before Rogue shows up to be comforting and a bit horny, as she is wont to do. She offers to buy Karma her drink but Blob reminds her that nobody has to pay for anything on Krakoa. I’m sure Karma appreciated the gesture regardless. The ensuing conversation is just so funny. Seeing the frowns and smiles and blushing is incredibly charming and a joy to read. Nguyen is giving us performances with these characters and I’m here for every panel.
After the last issue’s flirtations with the potential of the medium of Infinity Comics, it’s a little disappointing to see the art shift to a more restrained approach for this issue. I can’t fault Nguyen for making it easier on himself as he is both writing and drawing the story, while also grappling with the conflicting motivators of wanting to craft a successful infinity comic while still structuring it in a way that could be printed someday. So I’m sympathetic to the situation but as far as this issue, of this story, presented as an Infinity Comic, it’s a step backward, albeit a small one.
Triona Farrell’s colors are playful and can almost tell the story on their own. Seeing the characters’ faces get progressively more flush or pale as the story ebbs and flows punctuates the plot beautifully.
