Hunt Her, Kill Her is about a woman named Karen (Natalie Terrazzino) who is starting her first night on the job. Working alone as a night shift janitor, things are moving along peacefully until a group of masked men break in. It soon becomes a gritty battle for survival as Karen must use everything at her disposal to survive the night.
It is a simple premise that is inherently frightening and suspenseful – as long as the actors pull their weight. Terrazzino is great as the new employee. Early on, she gives Karen the needed human quality to get audiences on her side. She is a single mother coming out of an abusive relationship who just wants what is best for her daughter. This mentality becomes more developed as Hunt Her, Kill Her progresses. Her initial comments make it clear she will do anything for her child; when the intruders enter the story, the film shows she will do whatever she has to in order to survive.
The masked men are not as interesting, however. The fact that Karen is constantly able to elude the group makes them seem more inept that it does to make her look resourceful. While Hunt Her, Kill Her does explain why the men broke into the factory, there is no backstory for any of them. They are essentially fodder for some impressive kills and little else.
This results in a movie that is more about a badass protagonist instead of a woman overcoming the odds. Hunt Her, Kill Her has its moments, but it does not provide the non-stop tension it seems to be aiming for. There are some clever kills and Karen is a likeable lead, but the movie ends up being passable instead of memorable.
