‘Savage Avengers Vol. 2: Escape From Nueva York’ is an action-packed, emotionally charged adventure that will leave you breathless

This series concludes with a satisfying resolution to the story arc.

Savage Avengers Vol. 2: Escape From Nueva York is a thrilling collection of issues #6-#10 from the dynamic creative team of writer David Pepose, artist Carlos Magno, and colorist Espen Grundetjern. Building upon the momentum of the first volume, this new arc takes place in a dystopian future setting of 2099, where our beloved group of time-traveling heroes are joined by none other than The Punisher. Together, they face a formidable challenge as they battle an entire army of Deathloks under the control of Ultron. The stakes couldn’t be higher as this “found family of loners, killers, and berserkers” try to find their way back home, all while humanity’s fate hangs in the balance. For those who haven’t read the first volume, I recommend you do so, and then dive headfirst into this high-octane adventure.

Savage Avengers is renowned for its action-packed narrative, jaw-dropping plot twists, and surprise appearances from various characters across the Marvel universe. In this new 2099 setting, the creative team has a vast playground to explore, resulting in some truly shocking moments. Issue #8 is a prime example of this, as the Savage Avengers clash with Ultron, and the aftermath of their battle will leave you stunned and questioning how the series can even continue. The consequences of the fight are grave, with characters dying and being reborn in Ultron’s image. However, the final two issues of the arc provide a satisfying conclusion to the story and David Pepose’s run on the title. Each member of the team confronts their inner demons, emerging stronger for it. Furthermore, the emotional weight of the series is amplified, particularly with the exploration of Miles Morales and Jake Gallows’ tragic pasts.

Savage Avengers is a series that delivers on crazy action and grandiose spectacle. Similar to its predecessor, this second volume offers more of the same, albeit with a change of setting from the Hyperborean world to the post-apocalyptic Nueva York. The art is stunningly detailed, with both background and foreground elements intricately rendered. However, this level of detail can sometimes lead to cluttered panels, making it challenging to decipher the action at first glance. While there are narration boxes present throughout the book, it’s less frequent compared to the first volume. While some readers may find it jarring, I found it to be a welcome continuation. As an added bonus, the identity of the narrator is revealed by the end of the volume, which is a fun surprise.

Savage Avengers Vol. 2: Escape From Nueva York is an action-packed and emotionally-charged continuation of the first volume. The creative team continues to deliver surprises with each turn of the page, featuring a diverse cast of characters and unpredictable plot twists. While the artwork can sometimes be overwhelming, the intricate detail adds depth and richness to the post-apocalyptic world. As the Savage Avengers face off against Ultron and his army of Deathloks, they must confront their darkest inner demons, leading to some of the most emotionally resonant moments of the series. Despite the high stakes and shocking developments, the series concludes with a satisfying resolution to the story arc and leaves readers wanting more. Savage Avengers Vol. 2 is an exceptional addition to the series, delivering on its promises of non-stop action, unpredictable plot twists, and unforgettable characters.
