EXCLUSIVE Scout Comics Preview: Death Drop: Drag Assassin

Death Drop uses her skills to pick up the scent of the missing Lunaira Sun, at the insistence of their drag mother, Mother Henny.

Courtesy of Scout Comics, AIPT can exclusively reveal preview pages for Death Drop: Drag Assassin. Out on June 14th, the story is written by David Hazan with art by Alex Moore.

“The opening of Death Drop sets the stage for what’s to come in what I hope are some pretty unexpected ways,” David Hazan said in a statement sent to AIPT. “I think people have seen a lot of queer heroes punching homophobes in the comics space and while that has its place, we wanted to do something a little different…so we set the expectation that we immediately subvert when Death Drop is told off for beating the crap out of people who rightfully deserved it…All in all, I can’t wait for people to be surprised by what this book brings. Regardless, Alex has rendered its world so dynamically that you can’t help but be entertained.”

Alex Moore added, “Death Drop: Drag Assassin has been a total trip to draw, giving me the chance to mix moody noir aesthetics with bright, camp splashes of colour that pop off the page to help tell this tale. David’s script goes some dark places, exploring not only the adversities and dangers facing the queer community from external forces, but also the tensions at play within it carried along by a super-charismatic cast of characters who aren’t your typical gumshoes, femme fatale and whatnot—

I’ve really appreciated the chance to flex on the action scenes and David’s always been incredibly open to me trying things in order to tell the story in the most visually interesting way possible- as an artist I couldn’t have asked for a better collaborator and I’m extremely grateful to be working with him on my debut!”

Death Drop uses her skills to pick up the scent of the missing Lunaira Sun, at the insistence of their drag mother, Mother Henny. What she finds is a trail of corpses robbed of their faces, a leather-clad killer hell-bent on revenge, and an enigmatic and terrifying queen from Mother Henny’s past. To make matters worse, Death Drop can’t shake the feeling that the specter of the assassin mentor she exposed and left for dead years ago is now haunting her every step.
