Orange Cassidy defends the International Championship in a Blackjack Battle Royal

Shane: What’s really cool about AEW is that you really never know who will win when it comes to their mid/undercard championship matches. This Battle Royal could easily see anybody come out on top as the International Champion. But, I don’t think Orange Cassidy is banged up enough quite yet to lose the International Championship. I’m going to predict that he holds onto the title for a little while longer, especially because AEW has two more PPVs coming up in the forms of Forbidden Door and All In.
Winner: Orange Cassidy
Jay: I can’t see Orange Cassidy losing in a battle royale. He’s had a legitimately great reign and has given importance to the belt. I feel that he still needs a watershed victory against a main event challenger ala Jericho or someone. Anyway, he’s not losing here.
Winner: Orange Cassidy
Darius: I think Orange Cassidy is for sure within three defenses of losing his championship, and I’ll even go one step further and say that the next champion is someone who will be in the Blackjack Battle Royal. We know that Kyle Fletcher is in the International Title mix because he was the one to challenge Orange to begin with, but my money is on another, slightly higher profile NJPW star coming after Orange as we head into Forbidden Door season. And, if you want me to get super specific, I think that — between the fact that he’s in America this week because of NJPW Resurgence, the fact that he really wants to wrestle in AEW, and the fact that he was supposed to be at Forbidden Door last year but didn’t make it — the next champion is Hiromu Takahashi. I’m not so bold as to say that it happens this weekend, but I think he shows up, and I think he’s up next. As for Sunday, Orange still has just enough left in the tank to survive a (probably goofy) battle royal.
Winner: Orange Cassidy
Ethan Page and The Gunns vs. The Hardy Party (If Hardy Party wins, Matt Hardy owns Ethan Page’s contract)
Shane: This will be a fun Hardy Boy nostalgia filled victory. Nothing much left to say…
Winners: The Hardy Party
Jay: The Firm was a great faction, and I don’t know why they had to break them up. Ethan Page and Matt were also a great pairing. I’m sure The Hardyz will win to keep Ethan and Matt close.
Winners: The Hardy Party
Darius: I tried to rationalize that maybe the Firm takes this since it’s getting to the point where Matt and Ethan might need to part ways (as it’s been like a year), but I don’t know what anyone involved does if Hardy Party doesn’t win? What does Jeff do with sapped return momentum; likewise, what do Ethan and the Gunns do if they win? Go for the International and Tag titles? The Trios titles? Unless I’m missing some possibilities, I think this can only go to Hardy Party. At least in this scenario, we might get the return of “Money” Matt Hardy, this time in Babyface Flavor.
Winner: The Hardy Party
Jade Cargill (c) vs. Taya Valkyrie for the TBS Championship

Shane: The time has come for Jade Cargill to finally lose the TBS Championship. The time is right and she has had one heck of a run, but the TBS Championship title scene with Jade at the forefront has run out of options. A new champion and face of the division is long overdue.
Winner: Taya Valkyrie
Jay: No way Jade loses here. She’s too valuable for their brand. She’s great branding as they are actively expanding. It’s probably her and Britt Baker when it comes to great representatives for the company. That supersedes whatever.
Winner: Jade Cargill
Darius: I think every argument I have against Jade losing here revolves around the challenger. Taya doesn’t feel like the game changer that Jade’s run has been building to, even if this does feel like a time and place for Jade to lose. There is a bigger seed of doubt this time what with Taya having months of build and Jade’s reign having already hit a landmark number in 500 days as champion, but I still can’t visualize Taya pinning Jade and leaving as champion right now.
Winner: Jade Cargill
Jamie Hayter (c) vs. Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship

Shane: I’m kinda surprised to see this angle culminate in a one-on-one and not a six-woman tag or a Blood and Guts match since it kinda felt like this is where we were headed. I also kinda feel that Ruby Soho or Saraya would have been a better option than Toni Storm… but this is why I’m not booking the show. Their first championship match at Full Gear was a banger and I’m certain Jamie and Toni will deliver another great match at Double or Nothing. But, I’m going to predict a Jamie Hayter victory here on Sunday night.
Winner: Jamie Hayter
Jay: I’m so upset at Hayter’s booking. She was a hot commodity for them in November and I was in the arena at Full Gear 2022 when she won the belt. The whole place was rocking when she won, against Storm ironically, but she went back to being Britt’s #2. Britt has led the charge against The Outcasts which seems to be the main storyline in the women’s division and Hayter has had zero marquee defenses to hang her belt on. I think Hayter will retain, but they need to right the ship.
Winner: Jamie Hayter
Darius: With a little better setup, this match could be something momentous. This is the third match in their AEW trilogy, starting a little over a year ago with Toni Storm beating Jamie Hayter in the first round of the Owen Hart Cup. Six months later, Jamie got her win back for the championship, and now six more months later, we’re getting the rubber match. But with this Outcasts vs Originals storyline putting both Jamie and Toni on equal footing with everyone else, this match doesn’t feel like it has the room to breathe that it deserves. Because of that, a title change would just be a shifting of momentum from the good guys to the bad guys — which I would welcome — but it doesn’t feel like that title change is in the cards for either Jamie or Toni. Weirdly, though, I think if it were Saraya or Ruby here, I’d buy a title switch a little more.
Winner: Jamie Hayter
Wardlow (c) vs. Christian Cage for the TNT Championship (Ladder Match)

Shane: I don’t think I have ever gotten a TNT Championship match prediction right, so I am going to go against my initial prediction and say that Christian Cage will win the TNT Championship in a great Ladder Match. Science.
Winner: Christian Cage
Jay: Huh? I thought they were angling for Luchasaurus to fight Wardlow. Whatever. I think Wardlow will take it to set up Luchasaurus vs. Wardlow later. Also, Cage and Luchasaurus isn’t working.
Winner: Wardlow
Darius: Wardlow just got the belt back, and I know Hobbs is probably somewhere plotting to get it back, but this IS AEW’s de facto hot potato belt. Wardlow had it for a second, Darby had it for a second, Hobbs had it for a second, and Joe had it for two seconds. Maybe it is the ladder match talking, but I can definitely see Christian Cage keeping his momentum going as AEW’s most despicable dad-hater by ganging up on Wardlow. I mean, what’s Wardlow going to do to counter Luchasaurus? FTR have a match, and Shawn Spears is in a funky state contract-wise. I think everything is against Wardlow, and while he thrives against all odds, this is one of those nights where he gets cheated again.
Winner: Christian Cage
FTR (c) vs. Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal for the AEW World Tag Team Championship (Special Guest Referee Mark Briscoe)

Shane: This feud has been a lot of fun and I find myself enjoying it more and more each and every week. Not only is every person involved doing great character work, each one is a phenomenal professional wrestler. While I’m sure we will get some fun spots and character work during the match, the wrestling I know for a fact will be great. I mean, how can it not be great? FTR, Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal in a championship match in what is arguably considered to be AEW’s biggest PPV event. This is going to rock. FTR to retain in what could be the match of the night.
Winners: FTR
Jay: I’m with Shane, this feud has been a blast. Who knew that Jeff Jarrett would be the best signing of the past year? He’s been really fantastic and he seems to be having a blast out there with his little TNA 2007 faction. Even Karen Jarrett has shown up and any second now, SoCal Val is gonna pop up to cause dissension between Jay Lethal and Sanjay Dutt. Anyway, FTR is going to take it because while the TNA reunion is fun, you never go full TNA.
Winners: FTR
Darius: While we’re in hot potato season, and we’re specifically targeting former Pinnacle members at that, I think I’ve seen enough Dusty finishes from Jarrett and company to know that Jarrett and/or Lethal winning any belt right now is cause for a miniature crowd riot. I welcome that chaos, and I’d love to see how these four goofballs and the recently joined Karen Jarrett celebrate an actual title win on Dynamite. Do they need to hold the belts for long? No, not at all. Does this undercut the long road it took FTR to get these belts back? Sure. Would it be hilarious to watch Mark Briscoe accidentally cheat for Jarrett and Co. and watch them turn their first AEW gold into GFW gold? You bet.
Winner: Jarrett & Lethal
Adam Cole vs. Chris Jericho

Shane: If the rumors are true (which they more than likely are), it sounds like Adam Cole is going to be built up as MJF’s next contender. Which, in all honesty, he should be. Jericho knows what he is doing when it comes to building up top stars and will happily let Adam Cole go over in another great match. Bay Bay!
Winner: Adam Cole
Jay: Jericho doesn’t ever want to win anymore nor should he. They need to reheat Adam Cole and there’s no better way to do this. I think its an unsanctioned match so this will be a banger.
Winner: Adam Cole
Darius: Adam Cole is AEW’s golden child. He’s a beautiful man, he’s a charismatic wrestler, he can go in the ring, he’s friends with the bosses, and he’s right there with Sammy Guevara as the male face of AEW All Access Live on TNT and Next Day on the TNT App. I think Chris Jericho is due to win some sort of feud soon, but it’s not going to be the one against Adam Cole, Bay Bay!
Winner: Adam Cole
Blackpool Combat Club vs. The Elite (Anarchy in the Arena)

Shane: I was lucky enough to be at Double or Nothing 2022 to see the first Anarchy in the Arena and I’m lucky enough to be going to Double or Nothing again this year to see the second Anarchy in the Arena. If this second match is half as fun as the first one was, we are all going to be in for a treat. Knowing AEW and seeing who all is involved in this match, they are going to tear each other apart. I cannot wait. The only problem I have is picking the winner… Going with my heart over my head, I predict that the Elite will be victorious when this is all said and done.
Winners: The Elite
Jay: The Elite will take this. This is the top storyline in AEW at the moment and The Elite has been through the meat grinder for the past year both on and off-screen. They need a marquee victory to bring them back to prominence in the eyes of the fans and this is the way to do it. Plus, we have a returned Adam Page and I hope this is the moment he’s restored to being the top baby face in the company.
Winners: The Elite
Darius: As a huge Adam Page stan, I know that the path toward happiness is paved with sorrow. There will be a day where the fully reformed Elite stand tall in victory, and I hope that it’s Sunday. I’ll never root against my two favorite wrestlers in AEW, those being Page and Kenny Omega, but do I believe that all of the crap between those four men has been taken care of? Nah. Even if they get along personally, they’re going to be rusty, and they’re going into a hardcore match against Jon Moxley’s well-oiled machine. Can Page beat Moxley in a deathmatch? We now know he can. Can Page jump right back in with his old running mates and do it again, this time against Danielson, Claudio, and the wily Yuta as well? I hope so. I don’t think so.
Winners: Blackpool Combat Club
MJF (c) vs. Sammy Guevara vs. “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry vs. Darby Allin for the AEW World Championship

Shane: I think a Four Pillars match for the AEW Champions is a good idea on paper. I don’t really know why, but this match just doesn’t feel as special as it could have. I think it’s been plagued by a couple of things – first of all, it honestly doesn’t feel like there is any way that MJF is losing this match. None of the other Pillars feel like they have been built to be a credible world champion, at least not yet.
Secondly, this match has been totally overshadowed by the BCC and Elite feud. If TK is smart, he will have this match go on before Anarchy in the Arena. All four men in this match have something to prove, but I don’t know how much they can prove if they go on after the chaos that is sure to be Anarchy in the Arena. Now, if this match goes on before the main event, I think the participants can tell a story that will have a much stronger buy-in and impact from not only the live crowd, but the supporters watching from home. There is still no way that MJF is losing, but I don’t think that the participants will have to work as hard with a little strategic card organization. Unless there is a CM Punk return at the end, which wouldn’t surprise me.
Winner: MJF
Jay: I’m not that excited for this match. Aside from MJF, none of the Pillars have lived up to their potential and I wouldn’t rest the company on their shoulders. Jungle Boy has great potential to be a representative for the company and is legit Hollywood royalty but he’s saddled with an awful presentation and his Snare Trap finisher looks awful. Sammy Guevarra is uber talented in the ring but comes off as a twenty-something kid that doesn’t know what kind of person he wants to be. Darby Allin has the most potential of all but has been static since 2020. MJF is MJF and will be a star for, honestly, as long as he wants to be. He has all the tools to go far beyond the wrestling industry so I don’t know if he’s going to be Randy Orton or The Rock with his career path. Anyway, MJF isn’t losing to these three that have not lived up to their potential. This whole scenario bores me and I wouldn’t be surprised if CM Punk shows up to confront MJF.
Winner: MJF
Darius: So, of our esteemed prediction boys, I’m probably the most biased in favor of this match since I’ve spent the past few weeks researching the four pillars and their histories with one another. Despite my hype, said research shows that MJF is the best pillar. My head knows that MJF is the best pillar and, by all accounts, he should win this match. But hear me out.
Darby Allin is just about a made man. I know that, barring serious changes to health or personal status, he’s going to be AEW World Champion one day. Jungle Boy, meanwhile, is so far from that right now that I kind of feel bad for him despite the fact that he’s in the main event of a pay-per-view.
The last man who isn’t already the champion is Sammy Guevara, and honestly, this story is HIS story. Sammy is the one who sold his soul to the devil, won the Pillars Tournament, then superkicked the devil and threw it all away. Sammy is the one whose wife ran up to him on Rampage and told him that he’s been acting out of character. Sammy is the one who has cut equally impassioned heel and face promos in the past few months, hitting a few great notes and exploring his deep feelings and relationships with all of his opponents along the way.
So, while MJF is already the guy he’s supposed to be, and Darby is always just one run away from being the same, Sammy is the one who’s in the middle of that “one run.” This is Sammy’s chance, and while common sense says he’s going to hit a 630, get thrown out of the ring, and watch as MJF steals his win, there’s a part of me that sees Sammy repeating the ending of Double or Nothing 2021. Maybe, just maybe, that 630 gets the 3-count.
Winner: Somehow, Sammy Guevara
