The remaining contestants on Top Chef this week were becoming a little antsy. Not only would this be their last challenges in London, meaning the finals are around the corner, but also the winner of Last Chance Kitchen would return. They all speculated who would be walking through those doors.
They all entered the kitchen to a number of various gelatin desserts. Before they learned their quickfire, Sara reentered the competition receiving a warm welcome. With that out of the way, Padma introduced guest judge, Sam Bompas, who played a significant role in the current jelly craze. We would see who could break the mold as the competitors were tasked with creating a dessert that incorporates jelly. They must also use a mold for their dish, but how they used it was their choice. The tricky part would be making sure their jelly would set in only one hour.
Things became a little tricky for the elimination challenge. Trompe-l’oeil is an art form where ceramics were made to look like food or animals. The direct translation is trick the eye. Taken directly from Top Chef: France, they had to make their very own trompe-l’oeil as a dish. How they interpreted it was up to them whether they made a meal that resembled one thing but was actually something else or if they made a dish that mimicked an object. They served a distinguished group of diners including two Michelin star chef, Jeremy Chan.
Here’s the current Power Rankings before Top Chef makes the trek to Paris next week.
