I’m a Virgo arrives June 23 on Prime Video.

Boots Riley first came upon people’s radar with the absurdist dark comedy film Sorry to Bother You. In his latest project, I’m a Virgo, he captures the same originality, surreal humor, and social commentary. Recently, the streaming platform released the official trailer and key art (see above) to the upcoming mythical coming-of-age story.

I’m a Virgo follows a young black man named Cootie who lives in Oakland, California, Because he is 13-foot-tall, he lived a sheltered life immersed in comic books and television. One day, he decides to escape his home to experience the real world. Cootie meets new friends, finds love, and encounters one of his idols, the superhero appropriately named, The Hero.

Riley directs all seven episodes which stars Emmy-winning actor Jharrel Jerome (When They See UsMoonlight) as Cootie. The rest of the cast includes Brett Gray (On My BlockStar Trek: Prodigy), Kara Young (The Punisher), Allius Barnes (PEN15), Olivia Washington (Breaking), Mike Epps (The UpshawsDolemite Is My Name), Carmen Ejogo (True DetectiveFantastic Beasts), and Walton Goggins (The Hateful EightThe Righteous Gemstones).

Behind the scenes, Riley and Tze Chun (Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai) are the I’m a Virgo’s co-showrunners. They serve as executive producers, alongside Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer for Media Res Studio (PachinkoThe Morning Show), Jerome, and Rebecca Rivo.
