A chat with LambCat about the third volume of ‘Cursed Princess Club’

The soon-to-be-in-print book is due out in January 2024.

WEBTOON’s Cursed Princess Club is getting a third volume in print, and AIPT can exclusively reveal the cover.

Due out on January 2, 2024, the third volume collects episodes #62-77 of LambCat’s beloved series, which follows the adventures of Gwendolyn, the youngest heir of the Pastel Kingdom and “proof that princesses don’t always have it all.”

Listen to the latest episode of our weekly comics podcast!

But it ain’t just pretty pictures, either, as LambCat was also kind enough to answer some more questions. Much like our first chat with LambCat, this latest convo touches on recent developments, the best part of this third edition/volume, and what might come next, among some other tidbits.

Without further ado, check out the exclusive first look at the Cursed Princess Club Vol. 3 cover below and our chat with LambCat!

AIPT: LambCat, since we last chatted in January, what has been your favorite moment in Cursed Princess Club in the latest stories?

LambCat: Hello! It’s great to talk with you again! In the latest episodes, my favorite part has definitely been letting Lorena have her time to shine and go wild in battle. She’s not much into expressing her thoughts or internal conflicts like her sisters, but I think her fears, insecurities, and motivations come out best in tandem with expressing herself physically.

AIPT: We’re revealing today the third volume edition of Cursed Princess Club, collecting episodes #62-77, which means we’re nearly halfway caught up on the webseries in print! Congratulations! We’ve got print editions, will there be the possibility of swag and/or clothing for the series?

LambCat: Thank you for the congrats! Yeah, I’ve sort of been really slacking in the merch department this entire time haha. It’s mostly because I have no clue how to do it, but also because I have a real one-track mind that doesn’t allow me to do anything other than work on the story all the time. However, I’ve been so lucky to get to work with some incredibly talented and wonderful people who are starting to guide CPC through that process, so… we’ll see what’s coming in the future!

AIPT: What might be your favorite story beat in volume three?

LambCat: For volume 3, my favorite story beat is probably when Jamie terrorizes Leopold throughout his attempts to paint a portrait of Gwen by “portrait bombing” and other things. I love the really silly logic of how someone could possibly photo-bomb a painting. But I also enjoy that it begins the contentious development of Jamie and Leopold’s interactions as an opposite / mirror-reflection of Gwen and Frederick’s interactions.

AIPT: What made adding 4 bonus shorts with irreverent retellings of classic fairytales a right fit for volume 3?

LambCat: It felt about the right time in the story – as we’ve gotten to know more of the main characters, it could be some light fun to see how their personalities would play within some well-known fairy tales. However, they mostly served as a cover for one of the bonus shorts which is actually foreshadowing for the main conflict of the story as it begins to slowly emerge.

AIPT: By my math it’ll take 3 more collections to catch up to where you are in the webseries, do you think the print editions will catch up to the webseries eventually?

LambCat: Unfortunately, I start to drastically increase the length of each episode / season as the story goes on, so if I had to guess, it will actually take about 5 or maybe 6 volumes to catch up to this point. I think in total, there may be about 9 – 10 volumes to make up the entirety of Cursed Princess Club. (My apologies, though, if I end up being drastically wrong about that!)

AIPT: For folks dying to know what we have in store, could you tease something that’s coming up?

LambCat: We’re actually fairly close to the end of the story, but there’s a lot of big hitters that gotta happen before we can get there! It’s also coinciding with some big book / etc. deadlines I have that are immovable, so there will unfortunately be some unavoidably rocky scheduling conflicts as we land this thing. So I suppose the best answer I can give is: “Happily ever after…?”

AIPT: Are there any manga and comics you’re reading right now, or manga or comics you’d like to recommend?

LambCat: I always think to myself that the worst part of making comics is having much less time to read comics (or really do anything else at all). So I’m just sort of salivating currently for the near-ish future where I can finally devour a bunch of comics and books after Cursed Princess Club ends! A sliver of my giant list of stories I can’t wait to get back to reading are: just the entire WEBTOON catalog (Ordeal, Shadow Prophet, Seed, The Raven King, Brimstone & Roses, Breaker: Eternal Force, My Daughter is a Zombie, Acception, The Boxer, The Witch and the Bull – too many more to list!), Wait Where the Shooting Star Falls, Blue Lock, Spy x Family, and many, many more!
