Comics artist and legend John Romita Sr. passed away yesterday at the age of 93. His son, John Romita Jr. shared the news over Twitter late yesterday. Co-creator of Marvel characters like Mary Jane Watson, the Punisher, and Wolverine, Romita Sr. helped shape characters like Spider-Man into what we know today.
Romita Jr. shared this sorrowful news by saying:
I say this with a heavy heart, My father passed away peacefully in his sleep. He is a legend in the art world and it would be my honor to follow in his footsteps. Please keep your thoughts and condolences here out of respect for my family.
He was the greatest man I ever met.
Romita Sr. is directly responsible for so many iconic covers and imagery, from Spider-Man throwing his costume into a dumpster, to the Punisher targeting Spider-Man on the cover of Amazing Spider-Man #129.
AIPT would also like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and fans of John Romita Sr. May he rest in peace.
