It’s getting to the point where you don’t just want to see Beast dead, you want to see him pay. The hero-turned-villain has masterminded an edge over the X-Force, and in the latest story arc, we see he won so completely the far future is tainted by him. In X-Force #41, our heroes are 5,000 years into the future, and things are looking pretty bleak.
Before we get to our heroes, this issue opens with Beast storing his cloned self all throughout the world. He picks the only place humanity won’t alter or dig up, and it’s a clever plan. Benjamin Percy has clearly thought this through, and it’s a neat way to make Beast’s future domination make sense. As you’ll see with the cliffhanger, it’s also a nice way to bookend this issue.
The majority of this issue focuses on Quentin explaining why the world is the way it is 5,000 years into the future and seeing what’s left of the heroes. Time travel is a big part of X-Men continuity, so seeing a new angle on it here is nice. That includes an evolved Krakoa and a new role for Deadpool that’s worth a chuckle.
Stonehenge fans should be happy, it exists in the far future.

Paul Davidson draws the issue with GURU-eFX on colors. The future is detailed with plenty of creatures in the flora and fauna to eyeball. The level of detail is up to snuff with the expectations of superhero stories. One head-scratching element, though, is the lack of a pot belly on Beast. Unless he somehow hit the gym, it seems like a major mistake in the art.
The journey taken here is enjoyable, but most of what is on the page is a side quest for the heroes. The lack of Beast in the main adventure takes the stakes out of things as well, but overall it’s a fun adventure.
This is mostly an adventure story, but we get a quiet moment between Domino and Colossus. We’ve known for a long time Colossus has been manipulated, and we get to see he’s aware of this, questioning if we can forgive heroes who break bad. Seeing Beast’s footsoldiers is also a nice call back to when Beast manipulated plants for his gain. It’s not often we get to see stories like this one take years to reach natural conclusions, making them stand out.
X-Force #41 continues to show readers what it has all been building towards as Beast’s acts make the future quite scary. An adventure comic through and through, enjoy this one for the journey as our characters prep for the next time jump.
