Star Wars Black Series: ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Darth Vader and Commander Appo revealed

The Target exclusive figures will go up for preorder July 14 with an expected arrival this fall.

On Thursday, Hasbro revealed two new Star Wars Black Series figures based on their characters’ appearances in the Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

The good news is that both of these look fantastic. The bad news is that they’re also Target exclusives and will be priced at $27.99. Preorders are scheduled to open on July 14 at 9:00 AM ET with an expected arrival this fall.

Let’s take a look at both offerings and see if they’re worth going through the torment of Target’s preorder system.

Darth Vader (Duel’s End)

The official description from Hasbro:

STAR WARS fans and collectors can imagine scenes from the STAR WARS galaxy with this premium 6-inch STAR WARS: THE BLACK SERIES DARTH VADER (DUEL’S END) figure, inspired by the character’s appearance in the STAR WARS: OBI-WAN KENOBI live-action series. As the momentous battle between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi nears its end, Kenobi peers past the armored visage of his former apprentice to see what Anakin Skywalker has become. Fans and collectors can display this fully articulated figure featuring premium battle-damaged deco and multiple points of articulation in their collection. Includes figure and Lightsaber accessory.

If this wasn’t a Target exclusive, then it would be an immediate preorder. That being said, if I see one at retail (which tends to have the same odds as a Target preorder shipping before it’s canceled), then I can’t see myself passing it up. That battle-damaged facial sculpt is stunning.

Commander Appo

The official description from Hasbro:

STAR WARS fans and collectors can imagine scenes from the STAR WARS galaxy with this premium 6-inch STAR WARS: THE BLACK SERIES COMMANDER APPO figure, inspired by the character’s appearance in the STAR WARS: OBI-WAN KENOBI live-action series. A Clone Trooper in service to the Galactic Republic, Appo participated in several critical battles against the Separatists. He accompanied Anakin Skywalker to Coruscant’s Jedi Temple as part of Order 66. Fans and collectors can display this fully articulated figure featuring premium detail and multiple points of articulation in their collection. Includes figure and 3 entertainment-inspired accessories including a removable helmet.

I can’t be the only Star Wars fan whose pupils dilated upon reading “the character’s appearance in the STAR WARS: OBI-WAN KENOBI live-action series.” This obviously means we have to obsessively rewatch the Order 66 scenes from the series and see if we can find Commander Appo in them.

It won’t be easy considering both his live-action appearances have him wearing the same armor as the rest of the 501st. While this figure is mostly screen accurate (despite needing a darker shade of blue paint), it would’ve been worth the extra $3 if Hasbro included Appo’s commander accessories — or even just his helmet with the Avatar arrow that he wore during the Battle of Umbara.

If you’re looking to army build a 501st display with this one, you’d be advised to wait for the figure to go on clearance.
