Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 07/03/2023

Get ready for courtroom drama, superhero coming of age, and chills with our Channel Surfing TV picks.

Our first July installment of our Channel Surfing TV picks promises to deliver courtroom drama, superhero coming of age, and chills. The Lincoln Lawyer returns for a new season. The Man of Steel gets animated to a younger time in My Adventures with Superman. Then, the titular character has trouble reassimilating into society after her release from prison in The Horror of Dolores Roach.

Higher Profile, Higher Stakes

Defense attorney, Mickey Haller, gains his titular nickname by running his law firm from inside his Navigator while being driven by his personal chauffer. In the first season, Mickey builds a name for himself to the point that as a high profile lawyer, he can be selective on what cases he takes up.

The series is an adaptation from the novels written by Michael Connelly. Season two is based off of the book The Fifth Witness. Haller finds that he has a new fame thanks to his court success, however, it also has its draw backs. That negative side is what’s becoming harder to handle and he might not be ready for it.

Season two part one of The Lincoln Lawyer releases Thursday, July 6, on Netflix.

A Super Transformation

The Man of Steel has been featured on several television shows and My Adventures with Superman happens to be the latest. The animated series focuses on the time when Clark Kent is transitioning into his superhero persona as a young adult.

In addition, the show will revolve around the relationship between Clark, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olson and how Clark manages to keep his crimefighting job a secret from his friends. Little by little, our hero begins to unlock the mysteries of his origin.

The two-episode series premiere of My Adventures with Superman airs Thursday, July 6, at midnight on Adult Swim.

Trying To Stay Out of Trouble

The Horror of Dolores Roach began as a limited podcast on Gimlet Media than ran for two seasons consisting of 13 episodes. Later, Amazon and Blumhouse Productions decided to partner up to develop a television adaptation.

The story follows a woman who recently completed a 16-year stay in prison which she was wrongly convicted. Since job prospects are slim for a former felon, she starts her own massage business in the basement of an empanada shop. Just when things are starting to look up, Dolores finds her new way of life in jeopardy and turns to extreme measures to preserve it. Just a healthy suggestion. You might want to stay away from the empanadas.

Stream The Horror of Dolores Roach beginning Friday, July 7, on Prime Video.
