Keep cool from the summer heat by staying indoors and watching our Channel Surfing TV picks. Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens has a new case in Justified: City Primeval. Business is booming in Minx season two. Then, the Sheridan-verse adds a spy thriller in Special Ops: Lioness.

A Murderer in Motown

Before he went to a galaxy far, far away to be the law in Mos Pelgo, Timothy Olyphant played the old school federal marshal in a modern world Raylan Givens of Justified. Olyphant is ready to return to the role in the upcoming miniseries, Justified: City Primeval.

Right when Givens is ready to return to Miami from his previous post near his childhood home in Harlan County, Kentucky, he is assigned to a case in Detroit. He must help apprehend a cold-blooded killer named Clement Mansell, who has evaded the local authorities.

Justified: City Primeval premiers Tuesday, July 18, on FX.

Bigger and Harder

Minx is a comedy series starring Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson. The former plays a feminist from Los Angeles named Joyce while the latter plays a low rent publisher named Doug. Together they team up to develop the first erotic magazine geared towards women in the 1970s. Though the show received critical acclaim, it was eventually cancelled by streaming platform Max. Fortunately, they found a new home at Starz for their second season.

Things are looking up for Minx magazine. Sales are through the roof and Joyce and Doug have even more ambitious plans for the future. However, with the success comes even bigger problems. Doug tries to maintain creative control under new leadership while Joyce is finding it more difficult to live by her core beliefs as she gains a higher profile.

Minx returns for season two Friday, July 21, on Starz.

The War on Terror

Taylor Sheridan has developed a number of television series for Paramount. He has Yellowstone along with its spinoffs, and the crime dramas Mayor of Kingstown and Tulsa King. His latest project is a spy thriller that draws upon real life for its subject.

Special Ops: Lioness is inspired by an actual U.S. military program. A female marine goes undercover and is tasked with befriending the daughter of a suspected terrorist. Once she gains her target’s trust, she moves to dismantle the terrorist organization and bring it down from the inside.

The series premiere of Special Ops: Lioness is Sunday, July 23, on Paramount+.
