Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+ isn’t the first time the popular fantasy novel series from Rick Riordan received an adaptation. Two films were released over a decade ago, but didn’t resonate with fans due to deviations from the source material. The TV show is hoping to be more successful and stay truer to the original vision. Riordan co-wrote the pilot and worked closely with the creatives.
Last year at D23 Expo, we received our first teaser to Percy Jackson and the Olympians. With the series set to premiere in a few months on December 20, a new teaser trailer has been released. Watch the video below.
The first season is an adaptation of The Lightning Thief. Percy Jackson is a 12-year-old boy who learns that he is a demigod and has special powers. As he comes to terms with his heritage, the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. In order to clear his name and restore order to Olympus, Percy sets out with his friends Grover and Annabeth to retrieve the magical item. They will have to stick together in order to survive on their adventure.
The two-episode series premiere of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be December 20 on Disney+.
