Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 09/24/2023

The Channel Surfing TV picks include crime solving, vampire hunting, and college attending.

We have another installment of our Channel Surfing TV picks this week. A behavioral psychologist uses his knowledge to solve high profile cases in The Irrational. Vampires wreak havoc during the French Revolution in Castlevania: Nocturne. Then, the superhero universe of The Boys expands with Gen V.

Using the Human Condition

The Irrational stars Jesse L. Martin, who plays Alec Mercer. Mercer is a highly recognized behavioral science professor who uses his knowledge to consult on important cases involving law enforcement, governments, and companies. Mercer soon meets his match when he crosses paths with a female domestic terror suspect. The series is based off the book Predictably Irrational by best-selling author Dan Ariely.

The series premiere of The Irrational is Monday, September 25, on NBC.

Historical Vampire Hunting

Castlevania is a popular video game series following different generations of the vampire hunting Belmont family. It even received an animated series on Netflix that ran for four seasons. Now there is a new spin-off that takes place in a later era.

Castlevania: Nocturne is set during the French Revolution. The story draws upon the games Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. We follow Richter Belmont who teams with a group of hunters and magicians to stop the apocalypse. The show promises a never-before-seen origin story of its main protagonist.

Stream the entire first season of Castlevania: Nocturne beginning Thursday, September 28, on Netflix.

Give It the Old College Try

The Boys is a satirical take on the superhero genre adapted from the comic series with the same name created by Garth Ennis and Darrick Robertson. The popular series is receiving a spin-off and it’s going back to school.

In Gen V, young adult supes attend Godolkin University, a college run by Vought International where the next generation of heroes are trained and developed. It’s difficult enough to compete against your enhanced peers, but there is something more sinister going on at the university. If The Boys is any indication of what to expect, just imagine what kind of attitude and bad behavior these powered college kids will exhibit.

The three-episode series premiere of Gen V is Friday, September 29, on Prime Video.
