‘Titans: Beast World’ #3 review

A great issue that remains engaging from cover to cover.

There are beasts attacking the entire world, and Garfield Logan seems lost. Chaos is literally everywhere; creating panic among the populous. The Titans are trying to take back control and turn the tides. However, one person lurks in the shadows as the biggest threat. With this, Titans: Beast World is now halfway over, and there’s a lot to unpack in this issue. Tom Taylor and upcoming Titans artist Lucas Meyer team up to deliver an issue stock-piled with beasts, action, and drama.

The issue itself flies by. However, there are three main moving parts throughout the story. Donna Troy bears the weight of the world on her shoulders and handles this challenge with strength and grace. Meanwhile, Nightwing and the heroes on Earth are handling damage control and furiously working to uncover any advantage they may be able to use to prevent a beast world (sorry, it was right there). And as all of this occurs, Amanda Waller’s plans slowly unravel; and they’re certainly going to spell trouble for the Titans. Although this may seem like an overwhelming amount of story within 32 pages, Tom Taylor balances each plot point well. Although each focus seems huge for what’s in store and they don’t seem to impact each other directly yet, it’s clear there’s a plan to intersect each part soon. Further, this issue is a very enjoyable read that ends on a massive cliffhanger to set the issue #4 of this event.

Lucas Meyer enters the fray as the second artist for Titans: Beast World, and he doesn’t disappoint. Meyer’s art style blends perfectly with the prior work of Ivan Reis, making for a seamless transition. Like many other modern artists such as Daniel Sampere and Serg Acuña, Lucas Meyer’s art is a great combination of being strikingly emotive and creating intense action sequences. Along with Meyer is colorist Romulo Fajardo Jr. who helps bring the story to life. The story carries a sharpness through the intense colors that make the issue feel like an episode of an animated movie. Together, the pair make a captivating issue from start to finish.

Titans: Beast World #3 is another strong issue in a great event. It may have originally been shocking to picture an event where the DC Universe fights Beast Boy become one of the most engaging events in recent times, but this issue continues to cement the gravity of the story. Throughout the story, there is a continued sense of urgency which seems to further tip to the side of victory, but not for the Titans. Overall, this is another compelling story with great work from the entire creative team involved.
