Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 02/05/2024

We have three returning series for our latest Channel Surfing TV picks.

We have three returning series for our latest Channel Surfing TV picks. Class is back in session with Abbott Elementary season three. The war between the United Nations Space Command and the Covenant continues in the second season of Halo. Finally, dive deeper into the seedy Japanese underworld in Tokyo Vice.

Relationship Drama and Turning a New Leaf

It’s back to school with Abbott Elementary and there could be some added tension in the air of Willard R. Abbott Elementary School. Since the beginning, a romance has been teased between teachers Janine Teagues and Gregory Eddie. That all came to a head last season when Gregory finally admits his feelings, but instead of jumping into a new relationship, Janine decides to focus on herself instead. How will that affect their professional relationship at the school?

If that tension isn’t enough, it looks like the Principal, Ava Coleman, has finally got her act together. After spending the summer at Harvard, she has a new outlook and it’s threatening the fun shenanigans we’re used to.

The season three premiere of Abbott Elementary airs Wednesday, February 7, on ABC.

Saving Humanity

In the 26th century of Halo, the United Nations Space Command (UNSC) is engaged in a horrific war with the alien alliance known as the Covenant. Keeping the human side in the fight are the genetically engineered super soldiers known as Spartans, particularly Master Chief Petty Officer John-117 and his Silver Team.

In the second season of the series based off of the video game of the same name, John can’t shake the feeling that the enemy is going to strike within the heart of the UNSC. If the trailer is any indication, it looks like Reach is in grave danger.

Watch the season two premiere of Halo starting Thursday, February 8, on Paramount+.

Chasing the Story No Matter the Cost

Tokyo Vice is a crime drama loosely based off of Jake Adelstein’s life as a foreign-born journalist investigating the Yakuza in Japan. Adelstein learns firsthand the many dangers in his line of work while he tries to find the truth.

There are various loose threads following the first season finale. What’s Jake’s next step after receiving hard evidence of Yakuza crimes? How will entrepreneur, Samantha, avoid the pitfalls of borrowing money from the Japanese mob for her business? How will Yakuza enforcer, Sato, react following a brutal attack? These storylines and more will develop in the new episodes.

Stream the two-episode season two premiere of Tokyo Vice beginning Thursday, February 8, on Max.
