The Wrap had the scoop that Mike Mignola’s reach in comics will grow with a brand new universe under the Curious Objects Label at Dark Horse Comics. Considering the vast universe Mignola has already created via Hellboy, and it’s stunning to see another universe entirely form later this year. Ben Stenbeck joins him in crafting this shared universe, with the first release titled Bowling With Corpses and Other Strange Tales From Lands Unknown. The new universe is called “Lands Unknown” and it was inspired by an Italian folktale about a boy who goes bowling with corpses.
“I fell in love with the story as soon as I discovered it, but I wanted to play fast and loose when adapting it, so I created a whole new world,” Mignola told The Wrap. “Not too different than our world a few centuries ago, but with a lot more gods and monsters. Once I created that world, new characters and stories just started pouring out of it.”
The Bowling With Corpses and Other Strange Tales From Lands Unknown anthology will be written and drawn by Mignola, colored by Dave Stewart and lettered by Clem Robins. You can find it in bookstores on Nov. 5 and comic book shops on Nov. 6.
This is one of many new imprints Dark Horse has launched in recent years with creators, with Kevin Smith launching Secret Stash Press, Matt Kindt launching Flux House, Eric Powell launching Albatross Funnybooks, and Stan Sakai launching Dogu Publishing at the publisher.
