Ace of Base resurges thanks to ‘X-Men ’97’

Fans are still reeling from last Wednesday’s episode of X-Men ’97, to which Ace of Base provided the perfect soundtrack.

Fans are still reeling from last Wednesday’s episode of X-Men ’97, but the Swedish pop group Ace of Base is experiencing a resurrection protocol with the use of the band’s B-Side single “Happy Nation” in the episode.  The song drops in an emotionally-charged scene as Rogue descends from the ceiling, in her iconic red “date dress” from X-Men comics, where she proceeds to dance in the air with Magneto.  This lends more dramatic flair to the Gambit/Rogue/Magneto love triangle that has been established since the launch of the show.

The track “Happy Nation” is currently sitting in the No. 1 trending spot on Ace of Base’s Spotify Artist page and we are awaiting Billboard Chart information.  Fans took to social media to express how the song choice was exceptional.

Some interesting facts about the song:

  • It was released in 1992, the same year that the original X-Men: The Animated Series debuted.  In fact, it was released just days after the show launched on October 31st, 1992.
  • The lyrics of the song closely reflect that of Xavier and Magneto’s journeys:
    • Ideas by man and only that will lastAnd over time, we’ve learned from the pastThat no man’s fit to rule the world aloneA man will die, but not his ideas
  • “Happy Nation” never charted in America, making it a great find from the creators to showcase.  The top singles from the album (US-version) were “The Sign,” “All That She Wants,” “Don’t Turn Around,” and “Living in Danger”.

X-Men’97 airs weekly on Wednesdays, only on Disney+.
