Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 04/29/2024

Here’s the latest installment of our Channel Surfing TV picks.

This week’s Channel Surfing TV picks all feature strong women. A super spy is out to prevent a deadly attack in The Veil. An aging stand up comic is now back on top in a new season of Hacks. Then, watch the rise of the Galactic Empire from the perspective of two warriors in Tales of the Empire

Uncovering a Secret

The Veil follows an MI6 agent named Imogen Salter who goes undercover and befriends a woman with intel on a deadly plan. Salter must uncover her colleague’s secret to save the lives of half a million people. However, her target is untrustworthy so it will take a lot of work to separate the truth from all the lies.

The series stars Elisabeth Moss, Yumna Marwan, Dali Benssalah and Josh Charles. It is written by Steven Knight who also serves as an executive producer along with Denise Di Novi and Moss.

The Veil premiers Tuesday, April 30, on FX on Hulu.

Together Again?

When we last left Hacks, Deborah is riding high after her successful comedy special. The same night, she also parts ways with her head writer, Ava. At least Deborah was nice enough to drop her lawsuit against Ava for violating an NDA.

The new season takes place a year after with Deborah’s career hotter than ever and Ava pursuing new writing gigs in Los Angeles. However, the pair make a great team, and as we see from the trailer, the two come back together to work more comedy magic.

Stream the two-episode season three premiere of Hacks beginning Thursday, May 2, on Max.

Long Live the Empire

Star Wars: Tales is an animated anthology series that explores different periods of known characters in from the franchise. The first season focused on the journeys of two Jedi: Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku.

The second installment is called Star Wars: Tales of the Empire. In it, we take a closer look into the Galactic Empire from the eyes of two warriors. Morgan Elsbeth works her way up the ladder to help her pursue vengeance while former Jedi, Barriss Offee, looks to become an Inquisitor and hunt down her former allies.

Star Wars: Tales from the Empire launches Saturday, May 4, on Disney+.
