[Fantasia ’24] Fantasia Film Festival announces first wave

The Fantasia International Film Festival is coming this July and the first wave of films have been announced. It is definitely an eclectic mix. Names announced included a remake of an underrated 80’s horror classic, a professional wrestling legend heading up a cult, and a slew of premiere titles.

For almost three decades, Fantasia has brought genre fans the best offerings from around the world. This year’s edition is no different as filmmakers from Canada, Korea, Japan, and  Argentina will all have films screening. The films range from J-Horror tropes mixed with Western inspirations, fantastical stories that will haunt audiences, and single location thrillers.

Some of the highlights include Chris Jericho starring as a charismatic cult leader in Dark Match, Penalty Loop, a revenge story with a twist, and Dead Dead Full Dead, whodunit that is less about who was killed but who wasn’t. And this is just part of a lineup that includes a Mike Flannagan produced chiller, a reimagining of Witchboard, and a tribute to prog metal pioneers. This year’s Fantasia is shaping up to be a memorable one.
