New video games worth playing for the week of 6/10/24

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

Summer is finally here, and it promises indie darlings and Triple A hits releasing week after week. This year has a lot to live up to compared to 2023’s best releases, but it’s been strong so far with releases like Princess Peach: Showtime! and Little Kitty, Big City winning over gamers and cat lovers alike.

Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.

Alan Wake II: Night Springs (6/8)

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S

Alan Wake II: Night Springs is the 2023 critical hit’s first expansion. Announced Friday at Summer Game Fest and released the next day, Night Springs is available for those who own the deluxe edition of Alan Wake II, and owners of the standard edition can upgrade for $20. You won’t be playing as Alan or Saga, but instead as familiar faces from Remedy’s shared universe — The Actor, based on Alan Wake II‘s Tim Breaker (played by Shawn Ashmore, who starred in Quantum Break); The Waitress, Alan Wake‘s Rose Marigold; and The Sibling, based on Control‘s Jesse Faden. Alan is writing scripts for the in-universe show Night Springs, which will impact his reality and the real world.

In addition to the DLC, Remedy announced Alan Wake II will be released physically after last fall’s digital-only release. The physical deluxe edition will include the base game, the expansion pass, a digital copy of the remastered first game, and cosmetic DLC. A Limited Collector’s Edition from Limited Run Games will also offer a beautiful custom designed collector’s box, an art book, pin set and keychain, and an angel lamp replica.

Monster Hunter Stories (6/14)

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, and Switch

A remastered version of Monster Hunter Stories drops this week and its sequel Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin arrives on PlayStation for the first time. Spinning off from the main Monster Hunter games, Stories takes a new approach and puts players in the role of a Rider who befriends monsters and uses them to journey across the environments. The games feature a more light-hearted art style, turn-based combat, and the ability to customize monsters’ abilities and appearances.

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance (6/14)

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S

Shin Megami Tensei V released in 2021 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch in 2021, and now an enhanced edition launches for all platforms this Friday. Subtitled Vengeance, the new edition offers up a new story path called “Canon of Vengeance,” which includes new characters, notable changes to the second half of the story, and additional multiple endings. Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance will be enhanced with quality of life improvements, upgraded visuals, new areas and demons, new music, and an improved battle system.

Also worth adding to your wishlist: V Rising on PlayStation 5, The Talos Principle 2: Road to Elysium, and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous – A Dance of Masks.
