The Fantasia International Film Festival has announced its final wave of films. The event already has a stacked line-up including a re-imagining of 1980s cult classic Witchboard, Kit Harrington playing a werewolf in The Beast Within, and Chris Jericho as a cult leader in Dark Match. The 28th edition of the fest looks to be another strong one.
Steven Kostanski, the FX artist and writer-director of Psycho Goreman is back with Frankie Freako. The plot revolves around a nerd who is lured by a television ad to a party with the titular creature. Featuring puppets and interdimensional havoc, the movie has Ghoulies vibes all over it. Those looking for something more topical will want to check out Black Eyed Susan which is about a BDSM sex doll that is meant to receive and appreciate punishment as part of its evolving AI. The chilling Cuckoo will also be making its Montreal premiere at Fantasia.
Along with Vincenzo Natali receiving the Canadian Trailblazer Award, Mike Flanagan will receive the 2024 Cheval Noir Award. One of the best modern horror directors, Flanagan’s resume includes Oculus, The Haunting of Hill House, and Hush. Flanagan still has a long career ahead of him, but his prolific and impactful output makes him a deserving recipient.
The Fantasia International Film Festival takes places from July 18 – August 4. The full lineup will be announced July 3. Check out the latest news HERE
