Things left off on quite the scary note for Dick Grayson as The Dark Winged Queen caught on to Dick’s suspicions. But she has not gotten this far without proper planning. As quickly as things start to unravel, they similarly go back to how they were before. However, that is not the end of their problems. While things in the greater DC Universe are falling apart in Absolute Power, the Titans still have a job to do.

DC Comics
The main focus of this issue is Beast Boy. Although he has gone through the wringer lately, this issue does a great job showing his endurance. After being shot in the eye and then being blamed for the world becoming beasts, things have not been looking good for him. However, this time around he gets closer to some of the internal redemption he needed. While this is certainly an uphill battle he is going to have to face, the story does a nice job bringing back his past guilt over the events in Beast World to provide depth to him.

The other part of the issue prepares the Titans for what is yet to come. As a longtime reader of Percy Jackson & the Olympians, it is funny to see a different version of the Queen of the gods. Here, Hera has come with a great desire to usurp The Dark Winged Queen before she takes full control. This begins to pave the way for future conflict as this now marks the second Olympian to come down to intervene, which adds a layer of intrigue to the story as it’s been quite a long time since the Titans heavily interacted with Greek Mythology. Altogether, the story balances the story of Beast Boy and Hera quite well to reflect on the previous conflicts the Titans faced while preparing the groundwork for their greatest one yet.

This issue also sees guest artist Daniele Di Nicuolo collaborate with colorist Adriano Lucas. Di Nicuolo does an excellent job handling the creativity needed to draw all of Beast Boy’s creative and fluid transformations. One of the best examples of this is showing a barrage of transformations Garfield makes when tackling some goons. Additionally, Lucas continues to bring his A game to the series once again with beautiful colors, as seen through his ability to balance the depths of hell with the vibrance of the world above. Altogether, this is another beautifully illustrated issue with a great guest-star artist.
Altogether, this is another great issue in the series. Here, there is a great balance between two enjoyable stories that balances sharing the spotlight between two unlikely heroes. Additionally, the groundwork laid here brings the Titans ever closer to their destined showdown The Dark Winged Queen.
