We return to some fan favorite properties in our latest Channel Surfing TV picks. A new generation of teens get into mischief in Wisconsin on That ‘90s Show. John Woo reinvents his classic Hong Kong action film in The Killer. Then, crime is still rampant in the favela in City of God: The Fight Rages On.
From Summer Vacation to Permanent Home?
Viewers of That ‘90s Show should be happy because part three is premiering two months earlier than originally planned. That means less waiting to see what kind of shenanigans the gang get into.
This time around, Leia isn’t so ready to head back home, and she and her friends are trying to find a way to convince her mom, Donna, to move to Point Break permanently. Meanwhile, the different relationship dramas cause friction within the group, and an old admirer from Donna’s past reappears in her life.
Stream all of That ‘90s Show part three starting Thursday, August 22, on Netflix.
Gunfights Galore
The Killer starring Chow Yun-fat and Danny Lee was an influential piece of cinema thanks to John Woo’s stylistic directing. Many say the film helped springboard his career into Western movies that would include Broken Arrow, Face Off, and Mission Impossible 2.
Now Woo is reinventing and reimagining his breakout film for new audiences. The story follows a professional assassin played by Nathalie Emmanuel, who spares a target during one of her contracts. It causes her to be a pariah in the criminal underworld and the rising body count attracts the eye of a police investigator. Expect plenty of well choreographed gun fights involving slick turn arounds and slow motion.
The Killer streams exclusively beginning Friday, August 23, on Peacock.
You Can’t Escape Where You’re From
The award-winning film, City of God, explores the rise of organized crime and the drug trade in Rio de Janeiro from the 1960s into the 80s. Audiences were introduced to a colorful cast of characters all seen through the eyes of photographer, Wilson “Rocket” Rodrigues.
In the upcoming City of God: The Fight Rages On, we catch up with Rocket two decades after the events of the movie. Though he’s managed to move out of his old neighborhood, it manages to draw him back in. A new gang war takes place and only Rocket can tell the true story of what’s going on to protect the innocent.
City of God: The Fight Rages On premieres Sunday, August 25, on Max.
